TCCKF 2001
Ten years ago in April 2001 I received an invitation via Living Tao Foundation USA from Linda Chase to Join a May Gathering at her home, garden and village hall in Manchester.
We would explore teaching and learning Tai Chi with people having physical/learning difficulties.
The essence of Tai Chi can be used by the many different Forms and Schools available and the many differing abilities of those wanting to explore movement and stillness, breathing and balance.
The positive response led to a Steering Group meeting up regularly to explore the possibilities of what needs could evolve into a way of new challenges and encouraging people who had studied Tai Chi for at least five years to lead groups to the elements of Tai Chi and enhancing lives of all.
There were about 90 members and a programme of weekend workshops with principal leaders created. It was dynamic! Linda had such gifted contacts. Each weekend was full of eager attendees and leaders.
Linda had lead classes in Manchester and had written a booklet and a video to share with other Tai Chi players. There were many members who had been asked to lead groups with ‘special needs’ and this project of Linda’s provided a prompt of exciting, creative and positive ideas.
The TCCKF was up and running!
The creation of this Forum arrived in my life as I was being asked to teach adults with Visual Impairments at local college (RNC), also elderly men & women in a local residential home. I had been stretching my knowledge to limits. It was great to meet up with people from all over UK and have support, discussions and tips. It was great to know we were founding an organisation for sharing Tai Chi with all.
I was always very grateful to Linda for her inclusive attitude and vital positive mind. I miss her but know I shall not forget her! Deep bow of appreciation to her.
